History of the Party-list
About
The Trade Union Congress Party (TUCP) was established in January 2004 to represent the interest of labor and workers in Congress through the Party-List System. Recognizing the fact that the plight of the Filipino workers continues to worsen, TUCP has vowed to challenge the foundations of elite-rule as it strives to represent 39 million Filipino workers and their families.
With over 400,000 members nationwide, TUCP crafted its legislative agenda within the fundamentals of the core labor standards which includes: (1) the effective abolition of child labor; (2) the elimination of discrimination in employment and occupation; (3) the elimination of all forms of compulsory labor; and (4) upholding respect for freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining and the right to strike.
Represented since the 14th Congress, the Party advocates legislation in the context of decent work, protection of and promotion of jobs, and allied progressive concerns such as advancing a just and decent society; promoting economic equity; ensuring universal healthcare; defending women’s rights; recognizing indigenous people’s rights; developing universal education; reforming fiscal and monetary policies; the reform of the regulatory system for power, electricity and water; continuing agrarian reform; balancing rural and urban development; abiding with environment and natural resources conservation along the lines of sustainable development; promoting political pluralism; enhancing local autonomy; judicial reform; and ensuring freedom of information.
